6 reasons to visit the Crete Senesi in winter
Discover our special offers and why it is worth visiting the Crete Senesi in winter

Have you ever thought of visiting the Crete Senesi in winter ?! Usually, we think of these landscapes moved by a light spring breeze, or with the sparkling colors of summer around us … Well in the autumn-winter period you will certainly find different color palettes, but we assure you that you will still be enchanted by the unexpected beauty of these lands.

Our Podere Salicotto farmhouse is nestled in the heart of the Crete Senesi and will offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a dimension of total relaxation and tranquility. Here you can breathe pure air, and admire the entire landscape around you from the top of the hill, away from the chaos of everyday life.

Discover here 6 reasons to visit the Crete Senesi (and come and visit us):

  1. A decidedly magical and surreal atmosphere

Let’s start with the obvious: if in summer the Crete Senesi already recalls lunar and mystical landscapes, with the arrival of the cold season the colors and atmosphere will catapult you into a fairy tale. The barren hills surrounded by pearly fog will give you an almost surreal peace and quiet. With the white of the snow, this landscape becomes truly spectacular: for photography lovers, you cannot miss the Crete Senesi in winter, a more original and less mainstream photographic subject.

And you definitely can’t miss these snow-filled landscapes! Descend from the snowy hills, becoming children again, savoring moments of true happiness.

  1. Less crowds, more relaxation

Let’s be frank: nobody likes queues and crowds while you try to visit a monument you particularly are interested in. Imagine, in a tourist village such as Montalcino, to be able to take a beautiful immaculate photo, without “intruders” in between! Surely the Crete Senesi in winter will offer you this not insignificant advantage: your destinations will be much less crowded and in some cases almost deserted. You will certainly find less pollution waiting for you: cleaner air, and less noise pollution. You can disconnect from the hectic pace of everyday life and dive into the most uncontaminated nature. Concerts, museums and art exhibitions will all be easily accessible this season, and you will be able to visit your destinations with much more calm and tranquility.

  1. Winter sports? Yes, we can!

Lovers of skiing? Well, even in this case we will not disappoint you. The competitive prices make Monte Amiata a fantastic and competitive option! The highest mountain in Tuscany, just an hour away from our farmhouse, offers many activities for young and old: whether it’s for a walk in search of mushrooms and chestnuts or for skiing, here you can indulge yourself with sport.

The winter resort of Monte Amiata, Amiata Neve, offers over 10 km of alpine ski slopes with 8 ski lifts and over 10 km of Nordic ski slopes. For lovers of the snowboard there is also an equipped snow park, and excursions with snowshoes can be done both during the day and at night. 1. Between truffle hunting and Christmas markets

Truffle lovers ?! Then you cannot fail to visit these lands in the autumn period when the traditional truffle hunts with hounds and fairs dedicated to this precious treasure are held between October and November. Particularly famous and valuable is the white truffle of San Giovanni d’Asso, also known as the diamond of the Crete Senesi. In San Giovanni d’Asso, just twenty minutes away from our Podere Salicotto farmhouse, the Truffle Fair , dedicated to white truffles, takes place every year. Here you can taste the local white truffle, visit the Truffle Museum and participate in the many dedicated initiatives.

If, on the other hand, you love to breathe the Christmas atmosphere among the ancient villages, this is the right opportunity to participate in the Christmas markets. A magical atmosphere that you can experience with the whole family, for example in Montepulciano, about 40 km away from Podere Salicotto. From the end of November until Epiphany, you will find many stands full of typical Senese products and the house of Santa Claus with elves and ponies, a true paradise for your children!

  1. Last but not least… thermal relaxation!

In Rapolano Terme, in the two establishments Terme di San Giovanni and Terme Antica Querciolaia you will find many wellness proposals for the well-being and care not only of the body, but also of the mind. Even at Podere Salicotto, lovers of relaxation will not be disappointed: you will find very comfortable mats in your room to dedicate yourself to yoga or meditation.
